How does a woman assemble a capsule closet?

If you approach closet organization wisely, you can forever forget the depressing phrase about having nothing to wear. The capsule closet is a mathematical approach to the selection of things and images. You only need to understand its principles and begin to apply them. According to stylists, only 12 items of clothing are enough to find the right image for the right occasion.

The basic principles of the capsule closet

All capsule clothing must necessarily match each other. No white crows in the closet!

Determine which style looks best on you, emphasizes the advantages and hides the disadvantages.

The basis of a capsule closet, as a rule, is two styles: classic and casual. They have not changed for years or even decades, in contrast to the rapid seasonal fashion. Classic jeans, solid-colored sweaters and tops, a pencil skirt and a black dress are great capsule elements.

Choose pieces of good quality to wear for a long time.

Update the look with fashion accessories that are simple and easy.

Maintain a Uniform Capsule Palette. Choose 2 basic colors that suit and please you and pick up their shades.

The capsule closet is not boring at all, but very convenient. Deciding to follow its principles, in your next trip to the store you will no longer buy things on impulse. You will turn on your imagination to understand how and with what you will combine a new shirt or skirt.

This means that after completing the course you will have an easy grasp of the topic and will be able to change your environment, which so far has resisted it and perhaps does not understand you.

Ecological brand

This brand is characterized by using only eco-friendly fabrics:organic and eco-friendly. Not to be confused with nature.

Organic fabrics include:organic cotton, linen, nettle, hemp, wool, silk, leather, and others.Organic fabrics must have certificates confirming their origin, for example:

  • GOTS;
  • OCS;
  • USDA;
  • etc.

Eco-Friendly Fabrics include all recycled fabrics as well as natural and man-made fabrics where minimal amounts of chemicals have been used in the production process. These include linen, hemp, nettle, BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton, Cotton made in Africa, tencel/lyocell, modal, REPREVE, REFIBRA and others.

Certificates for eco-friendly fabrics:

  • GRS;
  • RCS;
  • FSC;
  • Oeko-Tex;
  • etc.

In addition, eco-brand seeks to reduce its ecological footprint, in the production process trying to use as few natural resources as possible, to dye and process products using natural or eco-friendly means, pays special attention to the design of its products, produces high quality, durable and safe clothes / shoes, cares about working conditions in production and throughout the supply chain.

Ethical brand

While an eco-brand focuses more on reducing the negative impact on the environment, an ethical brand is primarily concerned with respecting human and animal rights. However, both of these characteristics may be present to varying degrees in both an eco-friendly and an ethical company.

Child labor, forced labor and any forms of modern slavery, discrimination, and unsafe working conditions are unacceptable for an ethical brand.

Employees receive decent wages, have the right to join trade unions and collectively defend their interests.

Important clarification rules described above, can be observed not only in their own production, but also in companies that produce raw materials and materials for the brand.

Choosing responsible and honest suppliers is an indicator of a brand’s ethics. An ethical brand does not use fabrics of animal origin that are associated with the killing or suffering of living beings. That is, fibers of animal origin extracted without harm to animal health and life, such as ethically sourced wool, silk or down may be acceptable to it.

The main certificates that confirm the ethics of the brand:

  • Fair Trade;
  • Fair Clothes Foundation;
  • Ethical Trading Initiative;
  • Business Social Compliance Code of Conduct – BSCI;
  • RWS – Responsible Wool Standard;
  • RDS – Responsible Down Standard;
  • RMS – Responsible Mohair Standard;
  • and others.

An ethical brand is characterized by a commitment to transparency. This means that the company publishes information about production and working conditions, information about suppliers, and information about fabrics and materials (including certificates).

Transparency does not always mean that the brand meets all the requirements for ethics or environmental friendliness. But it is a good tool with which a brand shows respect to the customer and changes for the better itself.

Examples of such Canadian brands:

  1. Canada Goose;
  2. Native;
  3. Sorel;
  4. Arc’teryx;
  5. Dsquared2;
  6. Herschel;
  7. Dime;
  8. Arc’teryx Veilance.

A strong brand

As we found out above, sustainable and ethical brands have quite specific characteristics. The same is true for a sustainable brand, which combines the environmental, ethical and economic spheres.If a brand does not develop in all three spheres, it cannot be considered sustainable.

Characteristics of a sustainable brand:

  • the use of organic, eco-friendly or recycled fabrics;
  • The use of ethical fabrics;
  • ethical labor;
  • responsible approach to the selection of suppliers;
  • transparency: the brand openly publishes information about production, suppliers, fabrics and other relevant information;
  • support and development of the economy of the region of production;
  • support of environmental or social initiatives.

Initially, a company was considered sustainable if in the course of its activities it took into account environmental and ethical issues and made a profit in the process.

But in the current situation, it is not enough just to minimize the consequences of activities or to try to reduce the negative impact to zero.

Sustainability is now about investing in restoration and improvement: supporting vulnerable populations, supporting traditional handicrafts that are disappearing under the pressure of production capacity, and initiatives to protect animals and the environment:

  • Helping associations save endangered species,
  • protecting forests from logging and fire,
  • protecting the ocean and its inhabitants from plastic trash
  • and much more.
